Ecological condition and use of greenspaces in New Zealand primary schools

Auckland University MSc Research Thesis by Abigail Cunninghame

The world is in the midst of a biodiversity crisis, extinction rates are unprecedented, while urbanisation continues to increase. Urban greenspaces are more important than ever and school grounds have the potential to be multi-functional spaces, providing for and enhancing biodiversity whilst facilitating positive relationships between children and nature. The aim of this research is to understand how primary schools contribute to urban nature through their greenspaces and whether nature is valued by both teachers and students in a New Zealand context.
